Loren Katzenberger started Precision Metal Fabricating Ltd. from a vision
he saw when he attended the Western Canada Farm Progress show in Regina
, Saskatchewan in June of 1980. An inventor at this show was presenting
his new idea for a "RakeUp" pickup that would pick up swaths
better than any conventional pickup. After contacting Dave Freisen, the
inventor, and purchasing 2 units for himself, Loren began his quest to
develop and market this revolutionary pickup. Loren saw the potential for
all farmers to be more profitable with this product as well as providing
an income for himself and his family. By 1985, after years of testing
and the sale of his farming operation in Montana , Loren moved his family
to Saskatoon and began the process of building a company for manufacturing
and selling the Rake-Up pickup .
PMF is currently their worldwide supplier
of pickups for Claas,
AGCO, Case IH, and New Holland.
From 1985 to 1990 the Company remained a small, single product company and
continued to develop markets for this new technology. The facility in Saskatoon
, Saskatchewan was very small and by 1991 the Company had outgrown itself.
As a result, in 1991 PMF moved to Rosetown , Saskatchewan after being approached
by people from Rosetown and the Economic Development branch of the Saskatchewan
Government. This move helped the Company to gain space and resources to expand
its production and provide a more stable operating environment.
The next 4 years were filled with tough times as well as some good growth
in sales and market awareness. Included in this growth was the introduction
of the SwathMaster pickup in 1993 . It was developed and launched
to farmers with very favorable interest and reviews. Beginning in 1992, PMF
began supplying Rake-Up pickups to Claas, a German combine manufacturer. This
partnership has continued and as a result PMF is currently their worldwide
supplier of pickups.
Continuing with Loren's vision of offering products to customers to help them
make money. A new product, the Phillips Rotary Harrow was licensed
from the inventor Laurie Phillips of Australia in 1994 . At this time
it was apparent that the facility in Rosetown was no longer large enough to
handle the three products that PMF was producing. As a result a new facility
was obtained in Saskatoon to facilitate the manufacturing of the Phillips Rotary
Harrow as well as to centralize the purchasing and machine shop staff.
The operating of 2 separate shops continued until 2000 when the Rosetown operation
was closed and all manufacturing relocated to an expanded Saskatoon facility.
The expansion of the Saskatoon facility included the installation of a new
paint system which helped to upgrade the quality of PMF's products.
In 1998 PMF began to develop the Precision Header , another
innovative product designed with the farmer in mind. This new product allowed
the Company to offer a complete Header/Pickup package to the major combine
companies such as Case IH, New Holland and Agco. This complete package was
of great help to the dealers as it offered a complete unit virtually ready
to go to the field. This also helped the farmer in the end, as the products
are properly assembled and designed to work together to feed the crop smoothly
and quickly into combines. As a result PMF was able to forge strong partnership
ties with these companies (Case & Agco in 1999 and New Holland in 2001)
to provide all their Header/Pickup combination requirements worldwide.

The most recent addition to the PMF product line is the SMART-TILL
2200 , a new, innovative tillage tool designed to break up compaction
under a conservation farming system. The technology for this tool was licensed
from Jim Martindale, the inventor and went through its first complete production
run in 2005. This tillage tool is the second addition to the Enviro-Till
Family, which currently includes the Phillips Rotary Harrow, and the SMART-TILL.
Over the years, PMF has developed international strategic alliances with Linamar
Corporation. Linamar is a Hungarian manufacturing facility. The production
agreements PMF has with this company enables PMF to deliver product under the
OEM contracts from two key locations to truly service these major customers
on a worldwide basis.
Since these partnerships have been created the Company has experienced continued
growth and looks forward to the future by introducing new innovative products
to help our customers make money.
